soundworks collection - the sound of jurassic world

another great mini-doc by the soundworks folks, this time on the making of sound for jurassic world.

I love how these artists are so imaginative, paying attention to the smallest details.  Just try watching a movie with the sound turned down...doesn't take but a few seconds to realize just how important sound is to any project.

We should all take time to focus on the details...it's OK to spend extra time, no matter how fast the deadline is approaching.  In the end, it's always the details that make a "world" of difference.

phoning it in

Mike Castellucci with WFAA, the ABC affiliate in Dallas, produced what they are calling a TV first...a 30 minute program shot entirely on an iPhone.

Shooting news stories, or using footage shot on mobile devices provided by viewers is commonplace now for the local TV industry, but I have to say this program is definitely worth the watch.

And NOT because it was shot on a phone.  Yes, that is a great gimmick...it got my attention.  But here's the key to what makes any program worth watching...this program is well-produced, with great writing and excellent post-production...AND most importantly, it features great storytelling. I especially love the segment on 8 tracks, and the "8 track shack!"

Mike says at the end of the program, "Technology will always change, storytelling will never change."

Yes, the folks at WFAA came up with a great idea.  But they didn't phone it in with lack luster production, assuming it would be OK to have the entire show feel like it was shot by amateurs holding their cameras in the upright position.  No, they used the talents, experience, and wonderful technology available to them, to produce an excellent show.

This program, and talented people like Mike, are perfect examples of the passionate and creative professionals at every single local TV station in the country...and the reason why I love the local TV industry!
